FAQ
What coverage do I need for my wedding day?
Based on experience, most couples underestimate the coverage needed. A typical wedding requires 8 to 12 hours, with 10 hours being ideal for most weddings. For this reason, The Sapphire Collection was purposefully designed.
More time is often needed for:
- Multiple locations throughout the day for getting ready, the first look, portraits, the ceremony, and or the reception.
- Larger wedding parties and guest counts.
- Special events or specific details you want captured.
I find that 8 hours is perfect for simpler weddings where all events are in one location. For larger, more complex events, such as those with multiple locations or a large guest count, more coverage is often needed.
Weddings frequently run behind, even with the best planning. This is why I always help you build a detailed timeline. We'll review your plans together and decide if additional coverage is necessary to ensure every moment is beautifully captured without feeling rushed. You can add coverage ahead of time or even on the wedding day, if needed. For multi-day weddings or events requiring more than 12 hours, please inquire for more information specific to those events.
Do I need a second photographer?
To answer this question it’s important to first understand when and why multiple photographers ever became a thing. Prior to social media becoming widespread, two photographers were not commonplace or expected at weddings. Around 2010, when social media began to surge, weddings increasingly became more sophisticated, filled with intimate details, and continued to add special elements and intentional moments throughout the day. Since then, the internet has been blasted with never-ending inspiration. While this has been helpful in many respects, it has also contributed to how overwhelming planning can be and it has certainly impacted the expectations of most modern weddings.
A second photographer is highly recommended for most traditional weddings with multiple locations or intricate timelines. Two photographers allow us to be in different places at the same time, capturing different perspectives during key moments like prep, the first look, or after the ceremony when family photos and cocktail hour are happening simultaneously. This ensures all the details and special moments of your special day are documented.
For simpler, more intimate events, especially those where the entire day is in a single location, one photographer may be perfect.
Regardless of your choice, I have extensive experience photographing weddings solo and also appreciate the value a team of two brings. I'm happy to support whatever option you feel will best capture your day.
If you’re planning an extravagant event with an abundance of details and an extremely large guest count, you may require more than two photographers to capture everything properly. If you think that you may need three or more photographers for your wedding, please let me know and I can certainly accommodate those requests.
We’re not located in Dayton, do you travel?
Yes, absolutely! With experience photographing life moments and events in over half the states across the country and also internationally, I gladly welcome destination weddings. Travel within 50 miles of Dayton is included for your convenience. For locations beyond this radius, custom travel arrangements are available, and I’m happy to ensure every detail is thoughtfully accommodated, wherever you're looking to capture your special day.
Do you offer albums, prints, or wall art?
Yes, 1000% and I can’t wait to show you! I absolutely want you to have tangible heirlooms to look through and show off from one of your biggest life events. However, I know that planning a wedding can be very stressful and the goal is to not overwhelm you with information overload beforehand. For this reason I prefer to show you these options after your wedding and once you’ve had a moment to recoup from the chaos. Once you receive your online gallery, it will allow you to see how your images best fit how you want to display them. All that said, if you prefer to see these options beforehand, please don’t hesitate to reach out and I’d be happy to send you more info on albums, prints, and wall art.
What form of communication do you prefer?
The short answer is please email me. While people prefer to message in many different ways these days, email is always best and preferable for managing a business. This allows us to have everything in writing and in one place. With that said, prior to booking I do prefer to meet in person or via video chat. This may also be the case for going over your timeline prior to your wedding day. If you have my phone number, I still prefer emailing over texting for the reasons above. You’re always welcome to give me a call, but let’s please schedule that in an email first since I’m often at shoots and receive a million spam calls a week. Thanks, in advance, for understanding!
We have a lower budget, do you offer discounts?
The short answer is no. The long answer is technically yes, but only with specific requirements. Discounts are not offered for traditional wedding or multi-day wedding photography services but instead coverage can be adjusted for a couple’s budget, as needed. However, there are two exceptions in which I do intentionally offer discounts.
I do offer a Client-For-Life discount for families that continue to have me capture their growing families and life events over the years. This discount is reserved specifically for, and offered only to, couples in which I have photographed their wedding and continue to have me capture their growing families and milestones. This is my way of saying thank you for the honor of capturing one of the most special and memorable chapters of their lives.
There’s one other exception where I offer a discount. This is for Intimate Hitchings (Mini Weddings, Elopements, Vow Renewals) where couples elect to get married Monday through Thursday (non-holidays) and book three or more hours of coverage. Why? Because there’s only so many weekends out of the year and I value them. Not only are weekends a main source of income, but I truly value the few weekends that I happen to have free. In addition, I’m all for encouraging couples to think out of the box in starting this new chapter of life together.
Want to save big? Elope, choose a smaller intimate celebration or weekday event, or do something different. There's endless options, but please don't try to short your experienced vendors. I promise you that we all work very hard to make a living and to support our valued clients. Photographers specifically have very high overhead and put in many more hours behind the scenes than most imagine. Respectfully, please do not ask for discounts or special treatment on any services other than those mentioned above.
If you appreciate my work and are considering me as your photographer, those are the two incentives that I offer. Please inquire for more info on these savings and I'd be happy to share more.
Will we receive teasers or highlights from our wedding?
Wedding Collections with eight or more hours of coverage do include some teasers, however if you'd like to receive more, you may purchase that option prior to your wedding day. Teaser preview images are typically delivered within 48-96 hours of your event. Please inquire for more information on this option.
Portrait Sessions, such as engagements and family sessions, don't include teasers. This is primarily because the turnaround time to receive the final images on your gallery is minimal.
Currently I do not regularly post on social media, which has been an amazing life-changing decision (would highly recommend, 10/10). With that said, I may choose to share some teasers or highlights online, but please don’t expect it. Teaser preview images will be delivered via email or an online link.
What is the turnaround time to receive our final images?
For most smaller sessions, like engagements and family photos, the turnaround to receive your gallery with final images is typically 2-3 weeks. For weddings, it is typically 6-8 weeks. During busy months this timeframe may sometimes require an additional week or two.
How many images will we receive?
For engagement and family sessions, this number depends on the coverage. Typically it will range between 75-200 images total, but please refer to those respective collections for more detailed approximations. Weddings depend on the documented coverage, as well as, the unique elements of your big day. Weddings with eight hours of coverage and one photographer typically receive 400-600 final images. Weddings with ten hours of coverage and two photographers can receive up to 600-800 final images. And weddings with 12 or more hours and two photographers can total to around 1000 images. Please keep in mind that these approximations are for your reference and not to set strict expectations.
